I researched, wrote and edited daily commentaries, news and feature articles.
I assigned news coverage, monitored news wires and press releases, briefed and debriefed a team of reporters, copy-edited articles, and supervised the layout and production process.
I was also the Editor and founder of two annual national-level publications including the Singapore Tourism Awards (2001, 2002 & 2003) commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board, and Backstage for the Singapore Arts Festival (2002 & 2003) in partnership with the National Arts Council. I conceptualized the publications and managed a team of up to 35 in-house and freelance writers and creative designers.
I regularly produced and presented the weekly Weekend TODAY ‘live’ news bulletin on a leading regional TV news network.
I represented the organization on overseas assignments including: a high-level press exchange programme organised by the South Korean Foreign Ministry to convene with senior trade and foreign ministry officials; the coverage of the SQ006 crash investigation and victims’memorial service in Taiwan organised by Singapore Airlines; a cultural appreciation tour of Xi’an, China organised by the Thai Tourism Authority, the AusBiotech global biotechnology conference held in Melbourne, and a regional senior correspondents’ seminar on migrant labour organised by Inter-Press Service (IPS).
Over the course of my career as a journalist, I conducted interviews with well-known personalities such as former US Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright; former South African President Nelson Mandela; corporate chieftain Steve Forbes; Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh, and former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, to name but a few.
